The Clearing in the Woods
Design of a fully accessible dwelling with carer’s accommodation.
Our client’s both suffered from degenerative illness which was leading them towards life in wheelchairs. Our ambition was to create a home that would be part of the garden they had spent 30 years nurturing, creating a proposal that would allow the changing external environment to inhabit the dwelling, while maximising the opportunities for independent mobility both internally and externally.
The design utilised a sloping site to create a proposal that dug into the garden. A three levelled, irregular roof design with deep overhangs worked to create a varied and changing building that would interact with its natural surroundings.
